Art Phillips recently started his own music marketing company after 30+ years working in radio broadcasting as an on-the-air music director, for major and mid-size record labels, and with radio/music trade publications. He has been been voted by his peers several times as one of the top music promotion people in the industry.

Art is one of the few people that has experienced first-hand both sides of the radio and label relationship. He connects with John Bradley of SBR Creative Media to talk about where the radio/label/music promotion relationship is today.

John Bradley of SBR Creative Media connects with Haley Jones, the Program Director of KPRI in San Diego. We talk about Haley being a voracious music fan (she listens to more bands and artists than a typical radio program director, music director or on-air host). We touch on her view of the radio-label relationship; Haley’s rich history in Adult Rock radio in the West; and we find out a little about her life outdoors in Southern California.

SBR’s John Bradley goes to an in-studio performance for this SBR Connects video. Not just any in-studio performance, but in KBCO’s famous Studio C. They’ve been in their new Denver studio location for a year but Studio C has been around for over 20 years hosting hundreds of musicians.

What is it about an in-studio performance at a radio station that’s so cool? In-studio performances, a regular occurrence at the Adult Rock radio format nationally, are one of the programming elements that make Adult Rock radio stations so different from other stations and other radio formats.

In this SBR Connects video we hear from the KBCO staff, including Program Director Scott Arbough, singer/songwriter Mat Kearney and Mat’s manager Gregg Latterman.
